If you have ever had your home pressure washed, you know that it makes a big difference. This can make your home look nicer, and it can even help it last longer.

The only problem is that many people aren’t sure that they can do it themselves. This makes them worry that they won’t be able to do a good job. And the truth is that they are right.

There are many ways that people can mess up when they try to pressure wash their own home. Here are a few of the most common home pressure washing mistakes to avoid.

1. Overindulgence of Pressure

When using a pressure washer, it is important to follow the manufacturer’s instructions carefully. Many people make the mistake of using too much pressure, which can damage the surface of your home.

It is also important to use the correct nozzle for the job at hand. Otherwise, you could end up spraying yourself or someone else with high-pressure water. When cleaning home exteriors, make sure to know how to control the pressure, otherwise, you will end up damaging your lawn.

2. Operating the Washer the Wrong Way

If you don’t know how to operate a pressure washer properly, you can damage your home’s siding or even injure yourself. Read the pressure washer’s manual before use. This will give you an idea of how to properly operate the machine.

Keep the pressure washer moving. Don’t hold it in one spot for too long, or you could damage the surface. Be sure to hold the wand at a 45-degree angle when pressure washing, and avoid holding it too close to the surface.

Start with a lower pressure setting and increase it if needed. You can always add more pressure, but you can’t take it away once you’ve started.

3. Pressure Washing Asphalt Shingles

Homeowners should avoid pressure washing asphalt shingles as it can damage the shingles and shorten their lifespan. High-pressure water can strip away the protective granules on the shingles, exposing the asphalt to the elements and making it more susceptible to cracking and breaking.

4. Pressure Washing Wood Surfaces

One of the most common home pressure washing mistakes is pressure washing wood surfaces. While it may seem like a good idea to clean your deck or porch with a pressure washer, this can damage the wood and cause it to rot.

Pressure washing can also strip off paint or varnish, leaving the wood unprotected. If you must pressure wash wood, be sure to use a low-pressure setting and hold the wand at least 12 inches away from the surface.

5. Not Using Detergent

It is very important to use a detergent when pressure washing your home. Not using a detergent can damage your home. We all know that every home cleaning equipment makes use of detergent to be efficient in its designed function.

Pressure washing without using a detergent can strip away the paint or even cause the siding to warp. If you must pressure wash without using a detergent, be sure to use a very low-pressure setting.
