One of the functions of physical therapy is to assist in restoring health from physical injuries such as back pain by reducing pain in muscles, ligaments and tendons. If physical therapy is performed properly and under the guidance of a doctor, physical therapy can improve soft tissue function and flexibility and aid in developing muscle strength. A physical therapist will usually advise you on how to do physical activity in a certain way to avoid and reduce the chance of further injury.

Physical Therapy for Children

Physical therapy can not only be performed on adults or the elderly, but can also help children who have chronic health problems and injuries by developing physical strength and endurance, thereby increasing mobility. Injuries experienced by children can be treated with physical therapy, including cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, arthritis, and brain injury. The therapist examines the child’s condition thoroughly and then creates a physical therapy plan according to their developmental and physical needs.

Physical Therapy for Chronic Illness

A person who has a physical illness that is chronic or permanent can also find relief from physical therapy. With the limitations of the elderly, physical therapy can be called home according to their needs. Some of the conditions that can be treated with physical therapy are vertigo, rheumatoid arthritis, spinal stenosis, Parkinson’s disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, temporomandibular conditions (disorders of the jaw joint) and multiple sclerosis. Physical therapy involves examining the patient thoroughly and developing a physical activity program to help suit their condition by strengthening muscles and increasing range of motion or endurance.

Rehabilitation of Physical Disabilities

Some physical conditions such as spinal cord injuries, cardiopulmonary conditions (disorders of the heart and lungs), strokes, and brain injuries can cause serious disability if not treated promptly. In this case the physical therapist will treat the patient so that he can restore physical mobility such as walking, climbing stairs, building muscle strength, and endurance. A physical therapist can recommend appropriate medical devices such as walkers, wheelchairs, etc. according to the patient’s needs.
