Fun things to do in Queenstown

November 26, 2019

Did you know that Queenstown is the adventure capital of New Zealand? It is a playground for thrillseekers, with a range of activities to suit all ages, against a spectacular backdrop.

If you are looking for something fun to do, that you’ll remember long after your trip comes to an end, then here are just a few things you might like to plan into your itinerary:

Fun things to do in Queenstown | My Zeo Bungee jumping

If you are feeling brave and have always wanted to experience the thrill of bungee jumping, then where better to do it than New Zealand? Queenstown is home to the highest bungee jump in the country and the third highest in the world. At the Nevis Bungy platform, you’ll jump from a height of 134 metres before free falling for 8.5 seconds. You can only access this jump via a bus from Queenstown Bungy Centre. While you are here, the Nevis Valley is also home to the biggest rope swing in the world. You’ll fly high above the Nevis River at speeds of up to 75mph, in various positions, including upside down (if you dare!).

Skydiving

Is a bungee jump not quite high enough for you? Do you want to jump out of a plane and freefall through the clouds before gliding gently back down to earth? Then you are in for a treat. Not only can you skydive in Queenstown, jumping from heights of 15,000 feet and freefalling for more than a minute, but you can see the country’s breathtaking landscape from a brand new angle. You’ll forget any fear you may have when you start to take in the scenery.

White water rafting

Not a fan of heights? Then how about getting your adrenaline rush from white water rafting instead. You’ll find fast currents at the Shotover River, where a guide will take you out for half a day, either in the morning or afternoon. Don your wetsuit, life jacket and helmet and jump on and hold on tight as you take to the rapids, making your way through the Oxenbridge Tunnel and into the Cascade Rapid.

Skiing and snowboarding

If you are here between June and October you can take advantage of the city’s location in the Southern Alps. There are four places to choose from so pick up car rental in Queenstown and you’ll be on the slopes in as little as 20 minutes. Coronet Peak is among the best and is suitable for both beginners and experienced skiers. You can buy a multi-day pass and access The Remarkables as well. Both boast a beautiful backdrop of Lake Wakatipu as you fly down the slopes. But, at the former, you can also experience night skiing from late June until early September.

Lord of the Rings tour

If you are a Lord of the Rings fan, you are in the perfect place to take a day trip to discover where it was filmed. It is just a short drive along Lake Wakatipu from Queenstown to Glenorchy. The trilogy was filmed entirely in New Zealand and here you’ll step into Middle Earth and see Isengard, Beorn’s House, Lothlorien Forests, Amon Hen and Misty Mountains as well as Ithilien Camp.

So, which fun activities are you going to do while you are in Queenstown?
