How Long Do CBD Edibles Take to Kick in and Work?

August 13, 2020

Are you wondering how long do CBD edibles take to kick in? If yes, you should check out our helpful guide by clicking right here.

You’ve eaten a few CBD gummies and have been waiting for what feels like an hour for them to kick in. You should be feeling the effects by now, shouldn’t you? The answer is maybe.

Compared to other forms of CBD, edibles take a notoriously long time to work. This is because they have to be broken down by your digestive system first. How long do CBD edibles take to kick in?

It depends on quite a few factors such as product quality and your body mass and weight. Check out this guide to learn more about edibles and how long they take to work.

What is the Average Time it Takes Edibles to Work?

Once consumed, most edibles take an average of 30 minutes to an hour to kick in. This time can be skewed by quite a few factors which we will get into a little bit later.

It all depends on how long your body takes to digest the edible. Since you’re consuming the product it has to be broken down by your digestive system before it can enter your bloodstream. It’s not like dripping oil under your tongue or rubbing it on your skin.

Which Edibles Kick in the Fastest?

We will tell you that there are certain CBD edibles that break down faster than others. If you’re in a hurry to feel the effects, use lollipops or gum. You still eat them technically but they bypass the digestive part of the process.

As the lollipop melts, the mucus membranes in your mouth absorb the CBD and allow it to go directly into your bloodstream. Sort of like when you drip the oil under your tongue. It shouldn’t take too long for you to feel the effects.

CBD gummy effects take a lot longer to begin. After you eat them, they have to travel through your digestive system. From the digestive system, the ingredients are taken to the liver. The liver metabolizes them and then sends them off into the bloodstream so they can enter your brain.

Factors that Skew the Time

There are quite a few things that can alter the 30 minutes to an hour timeline we gave you. Most of these factors involve your body type.

If you and a group of your friends all take the same CBD edible, you will begin to experience the effects at different times. The reason for this is that you all have a different body mass, metabolic rate, and body composition.

Your Body Mass and Weight

Your body mass and weight play a huge factor in how long it takes for you to feel CBD edible effects. The larger your body mass, the more product that you have to take for you to feel anything at all.

The more of the product you consume, the longer it will take for your body to break down the ingredients and send them traveling through your bloodstream.

Metabolic Rate

Your metabolic rate is your metabolism. It’s a measure of how fast your body breaks down calories and compounds. There are quite a few things that affect your metabolism such as your age.

As you get older, it tends to slow down which will make it harder for your body to process CBD edibles.

Body Composition

Your body’s composition is the current state your body is in. It’s how the various parts of your body come together to function normally.

There are many things that can alter your bodily functions. For example, certain medications can slow down the rate in which your body can absorb substances such as CBD.

Conditions like stress and anxiety can get in the way of normal digestion which will cause your body to break down CBD at a much slower pace.

CBD Quality

When you’re buying any kind of CBD product, it’s important that you spring for quality ingredients. If you go for something that’s low-quality, you may not see the kind of results that you want or it may take you a bit longer to get anything out of the product.

If your edibles are damaged or expired, not produced in safe conditions, or contain ingredients that don’t agree with your digestive system, it will take a while for your body to absorb them.

Type of CBD

The last thing that can affect the timing is the type of CBD that’s in your edibles. If there is a high THC content it will take your body longer to absorb it. If the edibles use huge CBD particles you won’t be able to digest them that fast.

How Long Will the Edible Last?

The benefit of edibles is that even though they take some time to reach your bloodstream, the effects stick with you for a long while. You may still experience some side effects up to 8 hours after consuming the edible. Give or take depending on the strength of the CBD and how much you consume.

This time can also be skewed by many of the factors we listed above such as your weight and body mass or your metabolic rate.

How Long Do CBD Edibles Take to Kick in and Do Their Job

How long do CBD edibles take to work? If you feel like it’s taking too long it could be for a variety of reasons. Whatever you do, stick the timing out.

Don’t take more because you’re not feeling any effects. Be patient and your edible should begin kicking in soon enough.

Are you not getting what you want out of edibles? It may not be the right consumption option for you. Check out our blog daily to learn even more about CBD and how you can take it.
