Zeo for meditation measurement

Has anyone build an App for measuring Meditation States using a ZEO device or any idea if the ZEO device is capable of outputting the brainwave data to detect the beta, alpha, delta, theta etc states ?

The developer forum description says "Use Zeo while you are awake to measure meditation" but a support representative indicated that Zeo is exclusively meant for sleep detection and not for Awake states.

curious to know what kind of Raw EEG data does ZIO output so i can leverage it for my correct usage.

I'm not aware of any meditation apps for the Zeo yet.

Only the Zeo Bedside is currently capable of outputting the raw EEG waveform using the Raw Data Library (RDL). The raw EEG waveform is a 128Hz sampled signal. The RDL also outputs the power in several different frequency bins. You could also run your own FFT on the raw data.

I believe the main limitation to keep in mind is that the signal being acquired is localized to the forehead. I believe some brainstates are better picked up on different areas of the head and can also benefit from a reference electrode further away from the signal source (often placed on or near the ear).

Thanks Brian, the power levels in different bins is EXACTLY what i need and that should help.

and i am Ok with the reference electrodes being on pre-frontal cortex, from whatever i have understood so far, most of the relaxation/meditation detection happens in prefrontal ... so not too worried about other areas of head.

also you bring up a great point about reference electrodes. I always wondered why doesnt ZEO have reference electrodes when every other consumer EEG in the market has it (ex. Neurosky). how can it ever accurately filter noise without the reference, any idea ? I hope ZEO is as accurate as Neurosky chipset...

The Zeo does have a reference electrode, it just isn't as far removed as in other products. The Zeo has a reference electrode and two electrodes on either side used as a differential pair.

The main reason for this setup is comfort. I doubt many people would be able to sleep well with a cable clipped to their ear. We found that the signal acquired using our setup was still able to be filtered enough to be used for sleep staging.

Any idea if raw data can be stored on sd card and used for analysis? Or. Does it have to be streamed live thru serial port?

I think the Zeo for meditation measurement has not been release as app. I only know that courtiers hypothécaires can be downloaded as app on the phone through courtier hypothécaire montréal on the internet.
