ZQ = 97 first night although averages are...

English

Hi,

It was my first night using the Zeo and I pretty much aced it :D I got a 97 ZQ score which I was not expecting as I always wake up feeling tired and never on form, I guess i'm not a morning person. I can work much better late at night but my current work situation does not allow that and I have to be awake by 6.30am to go to work, another reason to quit my job.

Anyway, I took a screenshot of my graph for you all to look at. What i'm interested is extending the time i'm in deep sleep. I'm 27 years old and noticed that my deep sleep is off the average by quite a bit. In the 20s it says 83 mins. I noticed also that my REM sleep is way above the average of 1.6 hours. I'm getting almost double that with 3.25. Is this accurate?

On a side note I'm also interested in lucid dreaming and I have a cd with, I guess I'll call them dream triggers with suggestions of "i'm I dreaming" etc.. in the hope that I'll question my dream and become lucid. I don't know if there is any science on this or if i'm just wasting my time but I guess i'll find out. Anyway, I was wondering if the Zeo has/will have the function of being able to play custom music/sounds at certain points in your sleep? I.e REM sleep? I guess this could come under a future request if not already talked about.

Thanks :)

Hey Lee -

There are a few things that you can keep an eye on to increase your deep sleep… managing caffeine, exercise, temperature, light, noise, medications, sleep disorders, back pain to name a few. Check out this thread on another part of the forums where people are talking about, experimenting, and finding ways to get more of it… http://blog.myzeo.com/forum/ho.....eficiency/

As for REM, you'll get more of it the longer you sleep. Since the averages are based on ~7hrs of total Z, they have much less REM sleep than you'd see for a typical night that lasts 8hrs 40min. Also, keep in mind that averages are just that – they're average. We all know that we need more sleep than we're actually getting, so don't be afraid to blow the averages out of the water from time to time.

And on lucid dreaming – there's a pretty vibrant discussion happening on our forums about that here: http://blog.myzeo.com/forum/lu.....iscussion/ - different folks are using the Zeo Raw Data Library to see if they can hack their way to lucid dreams…

Happy travels (both in the dream world and through NZ)!
