Zeo Mobile and iOS 5 - Syncing Your Data

In the past few days, we’ve gotten a number of tweets about issues some of our users are having with their Zeo Mobile for iPhone.

Like this one:

When we investigated further, this is what you reported back:

I am having trouble connecting the two (online account & iPhone software). I'm using the iPhone app "Zeo" (iOS 5.0 on Iphone 4S).  I couldn't set up an account via the app--gave me an error message so I went and set up an account via the computer and tried to login via the iPhone app, but all it does is goes on an endless loop of, I'm assuming, trying to connect. -@joshbobb

Frowny face indeed.

But fear not, iPhone Zeo users!  Our dev team saw the tweets and started working on a fix to the data sync and account issue - and I'm happy to report that we now have one.

I'm going to walk you through 4 steps (with pictures!) of what you need to do in order to view your data – and confirm that the app is indeed, syncing it with mysleep.myzeo.com

What you’ll need

  • An iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch running iOS5
  • The Zeo Sleep Manager App (a.k.a “Zeo” in App Store) - Free
  • A registered mySleep.myZeo.com account (www.mysleep.myzeo.com) - Free

What you might need (for Optional Step 4)

Step 1: Make sure you are logged into your account via the “Zeo” app by clicking on “Settings” in the app.

If you're screen looks like this, tap "Sync with myZeo.com", log in ------> And you'll be all set.

Step 2:  Shut down “Zeo” app.

To shut it down, first “background it” by hitting the home button once – which will pull up the home screen - then access the multi-task bar on the phone by quickly pressing the home button twice.

A popup menu then appears and shows all the background apps the iPhone has in memory. Items are displayed 4 at a time so make sure to scroll to the right to see all open apps.

In order to manage background apps, press down on one of the apps until a red circle with a minus sign appears. Users should tap the minus sign at the top left corner of each app to close it.

Dev Team Note:  Due to the fact that the “Zeo” app runs for 6+ hours each day collecting data, we strongly recommend closing all other apps when using the Zeo sleep manager app as well.

When done, press the Home button to return to the main screen and move to Step 3.

Step 3:  Reopen the “Zeo” app.

When you reopen the Zeo app you should see the spinning wheel on the top status bar. When the spinning wheel stops your data should be uploaded to the mySleep.myZeo.com website.

Note:  if you are not connected to the Internet, the spinning may not appear.  If you have problems check your network connection and try again.  If you’re having network connections, power cycling (re: restarting) your phone can help resolve this issue.

Step 4:  Trust but Verify. (Optional)

If you want to verify that the upload was successful, you can do this using the myZeo Sleep Viewer app. You can download this free app from the Apple App Store: http://www.apple.com/mac/app-store/

To log in, enter the same email and password you used to sign in on the “Zeo” app

Once in the app, hit the refresh button on the bottom left corner of the screen; you should now be able to see the data that you just uploaded via the original “Zeo” app.

Keep in mind that you’ll still be able to see all nights of data captured with the “Zeo” app in the app itself – that stuff doesn’t go away once it syncs to mySleep.myZeo.com.  Also, you'll only need the “myZeo” app to verify that the sync happened - if that's something you, indeed, want to verify.

As always, big thanks for letting us know how things are going on your end. Our Dev team is keeping their eyes open for your comments as they come in.  For Twitter users, adding #zeodev to any tweet will really catch their attention!

Remember, we’re here to help you get a better night’s sleep, so keep us posted about what you need!

Sleep Well!

Have installed the app, have an account but when I try to set up the sync, it just hangs in a loop.

Thanks for the help with up loading my night sleeps to my Zeo. I found the steps simple and easy to follow and it fixed my problems with my i-Phone 4s.

I have two consecutive nights now that still won't sync with myzeo online or the sleep viewer app. I have tried everything you suggested above. Both are nights in which the app quit halfway through the night, without giving an error message such as having a dead battery or not receiving a signal from the headband. I have updated the app with the upgrade released today, so hopefully that helps with the crashing, but I'd like to get that data up anyway.

Hi there! I just wanted to check in and see if you were able to upload the two nights with the new app update? If you haven't been able to, please email customersupport@myzeo.com so we can see if maybe we can't help you troubleshoot this!

Bought 2 of these things Friday at BestBuy. One for me, other for partner. THEY SUCK. Spent the entire weekend trying to get apps to sync, headbands to record, websites to work, etc. Even downloaded both apps to try to get it to work (why the hell would you have 2 apps?). Both are going back on Monday. Get your S**T together before you introduce a product! It's a great idea, but clearly you are not ready to go to market.

Hi hollogeo, I'm really sorry to hear that you have had a frustrating experience thus far with your new Zeo Mobiles. I would love to be able to help you get up and running properly with them. If you would like, please email customersupport@myzeo.com with a subject line of "Attn: Melissa", so that your email comes directly to me, and we can troubleshoot to get you up and running! Thank you!

The two nights where the Zeo quit halfway through the night have now been uploaded to the site since I updated the app. The app also kept recording all night, which is the most important part. Many thanks!

I used my zeo on night  and when I woke up and did the stop tracking it then went to a new page saying I needed an account to view my sleep results. Do I really need to purchase a subscription to something else to use this?

Hi Jamie,

Your sleep graphs should be visible on your mobile device. However, if you are looking to see your data in a more in-depth way and would like to use our coaching features, it is necessary to make an online profile to which your data will be uploaded. However, there is no subscription required. Go to http://mysleep.myzeo.com to set up an account and sign into the account through your app. The data will sync to your account automatically and you can view it all online. Thanks!

Not always... while all these sync issues aren't solved, you cannot generalize by using the best case.

"When the spinning wheel stops your data should be uploaded to the mySleep.myZeo.com website." Nope when I log in to the website the last stuff is Feb 7th. No idea why it stopped working. I have 3GS iPh. and the other zeo my wife's can't even track onto the ipad we have for it. My iPH was working until the 7th.

Hi the last synch i got was 26 Dec...... Tried all the above - nothing worked.

Still on iPhone 3G... it's not synchronizing at all. The app seems to connect and seems to know there is an account byut nothings goes to the server.
The v1.7.1(155) is different from the screenshots above... there is a "Sync now" which brings a popup saying that all data from the server will be brought to the phone, ... but how about the opposite way ? The msg is confusing.
Still no luck...

I tried logging out and back in to push the info

I tried going into 'settings' and pressing "Sync with myZeo.com" and get "The application Zeo Android (process com.myzeo.android) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again.

Help please.

I've sent the logs when the force close takes place but can confirm this problem with my EVO.

Hi, I'm also having the same issue here. The mobile app just stopped synchronizing and I can't get the last nights out of the app. Is there any work around? Is there any way to export the "raw" data?

Thank you in advance
