There’s nothing like a good baseball cap. Whether you wear one with a uniform to show ultimate team spirit, or you don one with a pair of jeans, they create a classic American look.
Not all baseball caps are created equal, though. Did you know there are different kinds? If not, it’s time you learned.
Different baseball caps give off different vibes, so it’s important to wear them correctly. Want to make sure you’re doing it right? Here’s everything you need to know about the different baseball cap styles.
Snapback
You’ll recognize this baseball cap style instantly. It’s the one worn by the big guys in the Major League. You’ll also see it donned by casual wearers, performers, and plenty of other people.
What’s in the name? It refers to how you adjust the size of the cap. Snaps allow for making the cap more snug or looser, depending on your head size and preference.
The body of that cap is created from six panels. It’s got structure, it’s got style, and it reminds everyone of baseball. I
This style of baseball cap really yells “baseball”, but it also lets you do your own thing. So if that’s what you’re going for, this is the style for you.

5-Panel
It might have one fewer panel than the snapback, but that doesn’t make this cap any less popular. It definitely gives off a different sort of vibe, though.
The 5-panel baseball cap is more the type you’d associate with hipsters and the dudes that hang out on bikes that are too small for them.
But really, just about anyone can sear this caps, too. They’ll give a trendier look to a plain pair of slacks and a t-shirt. Or they’ll look great with a sweater and some sneakers.
This style of cap looks great no matter how it’s worn. Wear it facing forward, backward, to the side, or tilted. Whatever fits your vibe, this hat can make it look good.
You’ll often see patterns on this type of cap, while you’re not as likely to find that with the snapback style. So if you’re into that, go get one.
Dad Cap
This is exactly what it sounds like. This style of cap makes everybody think of dad jokes. It’s the kind of thing you’d see worn by a slightly overweight, older guy who’s donning his hat just because that’s his thing.
These hats are simple. That means they’ll work really well with casual outfits and worn like a straight-up baseball cap. We don’t recommend tilting these ones since it won’t have the same effect as the 5-panel.
You don’t have to be a middle-aged man to wear these hats, though. They’ll work for just about anybody who’s not trying to look hipster or trendy.
That’s not to say you won’t look good in them, though. They’ve got their own niche in the fashion world, and that’s okay.
Fitted Cap
This cap often sports something you’re a fan of.
Got a favorite team? How about a brand you tend to wear?
Those are the types of things you’ll see in this style of baseball cap.
These caps do come in different sizes. Make sure you choose the right size because a hat that’s too big just doesn’t look good.
If you’re looking for a solid cap with nothing on it, this isn’t the style for you. And though wearing stickers with fitted caps has been a thing, it’s always better to leave them off.
Premium
These are the baseball hats with class. They’re the ones that you could get away with wearing with your nicer, even tailored, clothing.
They’re high quality. They have texture. They offer different designs that’ll make you stand out as knowing how to dress properly.
Premium baseball caps are a cut above the rest if you’re looking to don one with your not-so-casual attire. We don’t recommend wearing these with casual clothes, though.
Strapbacks
These caps are very similar to snapbacks. They have one important difference, though. Instead of adjusting with snaps, these caps use adjustable bands.
These bands might be made of leather or some other material. Either way, they’re effective.
Strapbacks can be found with either 5 or 6-panel construction, so if you like this style, go ahead and choose the number of panels you want.
Flexfit
Flexfit caps were unique. They aren’t built to fit peoples’ heads perfectly and they don’t have bands that adjust.
Instead, the entire dome of the hat adjusts.
Yes, you heard that right.
The dome of these caps stretches. Hence the name. You simply put the cap on and it stretches to fit your head.
Sounds pretty simple right? These caps aren’t so big anymore, but they were definitely a big deal 20-30 years ago.
You never know, though. They may just make a comeback.
